I’m Shea Hignell, the hands and creative mind behind The Printed Pearl. I’d like to say it all began with what I thought was a bad habit. Instead of paying attention in lecture halls, I’d be doodling unique names, favorite quotes & song verses in my textbooks. Turns out all those hours of “dedication” lead me to an undiscovered passion and gift. And here I am living a dream I never knew I had.
Initially, I started making calligraphy prints and custom signs for friends and family. I knew there were possibilities to take it further, but just considered it just a pastime. It wasn’t until coincidentally that year when I got engaged to my wonderful husband that I designed my whole wedding with welcome signs, seating charts, table numbers and accent signage. From that point on, I knew this was something I could do for others! And as everyone says... the rest was history.
SERVING CREATIVE LOVERS EVERYWHERE.
5 things you probably don’t know about me:
I not only help my husband run a CrossFit gym, but I also compete! I’ve been to CrossFit Games Regionals four different times on a team and hope to make it as an individual one day. I even have my own coach and training protocol throughout the week. It’s almost like a part-time job! All in all, I love love love to workout.
- The obsession with pugs, mine in particular, started as a joke. My husband and I would send each other funny meme’s of pugs that said things like “I didn’t choose the the pug life, the pug life chose me.” And now we are 100% crazy pug people. Our wifi network name is “puglife”, we have numerous pug items in our household and we dress our lil’ guy up in costumes for the holidays.
- My love language is gifts. I think this is why a hand written ANYTHING brings me to my knees. A handwritten note, to me, is pure gold. And I believe that this is exactly the way I treat projects for my clients- like I’m giving them a perfectly designed gift.
- I have a sore spot for the topic of body image. It breaks my heart to even think about all the doubts in any beautiful woman’s mind. Because of this I try my best to use my platform to hopefully encourage and inspire others to find that genuine love for themselves. Whether it’s through a message on a t-shirt or a simple instagram post on a Tuesday, I pray I can influence just one person.
- I named my business after my grandmother Pearl. My grandma Pearl was the most gentle and loving person I had ever known. After she passed away, I wanted nothing more than to honor her through my success in life. With some research and further reflection on the word “pearl” I stumbled upon that aha! moment.
